What the brow lamination course teaches
These are the habits Han teaches. They are worth knowing whoever does your brows: over-processed brows turn dry, frizzy and brittle, and that cannot be undone.
- Read the hair first
- Before any solution is opened, the technician checks how thick and stiff your brow hairs are and asks whether they have been permed or tinted before, then puts you in one of five hair groups.
- Time the solution to the hair
- The lifting solution stays on 4–6 minutes for fine hair, 6–8 for medium and 8–12 for thick, coarse hair. Hair that has been permed or tinted before gets 30–40% less time and is checked from minute 3.
- Check before the timer ends
- A minute or two before time, one hair at the tail of the brow is nudged. If it stays where it was pushed, the brow is ready; if it springs back, it is not. When in doubt, the shorter time wins.
- Screen before starting
- Lamination is refused on inflamed, scratched or infected skin, with a known chemical allergy, on badly broken brow hair, or soon after a peel, laser or microneedling on the brows. It is postponed during pregnancy and breastfeeding, while using retinol or isotretinoin, while a new brow tattoo is still healing, or while the skin is irritated. The course teaches a patch test, read after 24–48 hours, for new clients and anyone who has reacted before.
The 8 steps, in a fixed order
- Cleanse the brows, read the hair and take a before photo.
- Lifting solution (No. 1), timed to your hair group.
- Setting wax, to hold the new direction.
- Neutralising solution (No. 2), never left on longer than No. 1.
- Map the shape: start, arch and tail, checked for symmetry.
- Tint, matched to your hair and skin tone.
- Wax away hairs outside the shape, never twice on the same patch of skin.
- Nourishing oil or keratin, and a final brush into shape.
Aftercare is the same advice the salon gives every brow client: brow aftercare.
What the lash lift course teaches
- Fit the shield to the eye
- Small, medium or large, for a natural curl or a stronger lift, chosen for the shape of your eye.
- Set every lash straight
- Each lash is laid on the shield in line, with no crossed lashes and no bend at the root.
- Time the solution to the lash
- Fine, normal and coarse lashes get different times, so the lashes are curled, not burnt.
- Fix what went wrong
- How to correct lashes that came out over-curled, bent, burnt or uneven between the two eyes.
